Easy Diamond Guide

Buying a Diamond is not an everyday task - so when time comes it can be very daunting! That's why Diamond Boutique has put together an easy to understand guide to buying the perfect Diamond - helping you understand the 4C's.

The cut of a Diamond determines its beauty. It shows how well the Diamond absorbs and reflects light. The better the cut, the more sparkle the stone will have. Don't be mistaken the cut does NOT refer to the shape of the stone. A perfectly cut Diamond will show three effects: Brilliance, Fire and Scintillation

Everything else in life is beautiful in colour, but when it comes to Diamonds colourless stones are much more popular and precious. The colour of a Diamond is rated from D to Z, with D being colourless and Z being slightly yellow. Have a look at Elizabeth Taylor's engagement ring - it's a whopping 33 carat ring with an amazing D colour.

This one's all about the famous "Congrats! How many carats is it?". When talking Diamonds you can't leave out the carat. Remember the carat refers to the weight of a the stone- not the size, One carat is divided into 100 points and weighs 0.2 grams. The average Diamond carat weight used in engagement rings is 0.37 carats.

When a Diamond is forming, small crystals can be trapped within it. This leaves Diamonds with inclusions and blemishes. The clarity determines how much these inclusions and blemishes affect the overall appearance of a Diamond. There are a total of 11 specific clarity grades for a Diamond ranging from Flawless (FL) to Included (I1, I2, and I3).

And there you have it - easy as ABC. Now you can buy perfect a Diamond.
