When light enters a perfectly cut diamond it will enter from the top, bounce around the facets as if they were a hall of mirrors, and exit once again through the top of the stone. This is when the diamond comes alive and sparkles ferociously, showing its fire and brilliance. Whilst this subject is rarely discussed when buying a diamond from the high street, there is limited benefit to buying a stone with excellent colour and clarity but a poor cut: when viewing such a diamond, the light will disappear through the sides and bottom, and the intensity of the sparkle will be lost. Diamond cut is graded by GIA as either Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor – we at Diamond Boutique will only supply diamonds of ‘Good’ cut or better ensuring each diamond conforms to strict internal diamond grading standards.
